ESTABLISHING A LEGACY TO BRING RESTORATION TO FAMILIES IN
SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS
Dear Friend and Supporter,
Even before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been praying and waiting on the Lord for His guidance on how to grow our ministry here in the Dominican Republic. With a combined 45 years of mission’s and Christian experience between them, Malcolm & Yanet Taylor, founded YWAM Series 23 in response to a call from God for the people of San Pedro de Macoris. That calling, is to bring restoration and the love of Christ through mission’s service with a focus on ministering to couples and families.
Since 2017, the ministry has been operating out of the Taylor family home. While this has had its benefits, it also brings challenges. It is not ideal to bring troubled couples for counseling into a family home with young children present, with Covid-19 it is not advisable to have large numbers of people contaminating our home and space is limited, especially for video recording.
While Covid-19 has brought about many uncertainties, the need for this type of ministry has also grown. Today, more than ever, couples need counseling, parents need coaching, teenagers need teaching about purity, young couples need premarital advice and so on. Locally, we are starting to see a return to normality and believe that this is the right time for us to seek to expand our ministry, using appropriate distancing measures and new methods.
Our vision is to see a city center-based facility where we can have a classroom for our different courses (marriage courses, pre-marital courses, parental courses, etc.), counseling rooms, a TV studio for production of video materials & live programming, ministry office and to be a future facility where we can receive visiting teams.
Start Up Budget:
$12,000 to secure the rent and utilities of a suitable property from which to operate for 12 months.
$2,000 for rent deposits, fees and essential furniture & fittings.
Initial Start Up Budget = $14,000
Through the generosity of a United Methodist Church in Iowa, we have a matching grant opportunity up to $7,000. To date we have raised the first $2,000 and are seeking a donor/donors to fulfil the remaining amount, $5,000, of the grant match. This will allow us to initiate the rental contract and open the ministry center. We will continue our fundraising throughout the year for additional furnishings, fittings, desks, decorations, stoves, fridge, air-conditioning, etc. for the ministry facility.
Through your support we will be able to reach out to:
Equip our local volunteers through teaching and service opportunities.
Homes of Hope – building houses for needy families through the use of local volunteers or visiting teams.
Counseling Services: to be counseling troubled teens, singles and couples.
Conferences – to be able to run annual conferences with focuses ranging from missions, evangelism, family, parenting and marriages.
Seminars & Courses – to be able to run marriage and parenting courses
Ministry – to be able to coordinate and facilitate weekly and monthly ministry opportunities into the local communities.
TV and media – to have a fully equipped TV and media studio for producing live and recorded programs.
One of our core competences has been hosting teams and there is still a great need for us to create opportunities for people to have a missional experience. We fully expect that we will host teams again, and yes, we are open to receive teams in 2021, as long as there is no further travel or governmental restrictions. Even if a team is unable to come and be physically present, we can provide a custom virtual team experience for you and your group.
We appreciate your prayers as we seek to expand the reach of the ministry of YWAM Series 23 in 2021 and beyond. If you require further information about this opportunity, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us.
